Not everything earns a place in The Cottage

There’s been a lot happening behind the scenes at Lisa Lynn Creations lately.

Some things have worked beautifully. Some have needed another try. And a few ideas have quietly been set aside altogether.

I’m learning that creating a collection isn’t really about making as many things as possible. It’s about making something, living with it for a little while, testing it, changing it, and deciding whether it truly belongs.

Today, that something was lavender body butter.

I spent part of the day whipping together shea and mango butters with coconut and jojoba oils and just a touch of lavender. The result is wonderfully soft and creamy, and I have to admit, seeing all those little jars lined up on the table made me ridiculously happy.

But they aren’t ready for the cottage quite yet.

This batch is headed to my wonderful group of testers first.

I want to know how it feels when they first put it on, how their skin feels a little while later, whether the lavender is just enough, and whether there’s anything they would change.

That testing has become one of my favorite parts of this process.

There’s something very tempting about making something beautiful and immediately deciding, Yes! This is it! But I’m trying very hard not to do that.

The soaps have taught me patience. The candles have certainly taught me patience. And now the body butter gets its turn.

Because when Lisa Lynn Creations opens its doors, I don’t want the shelves filled simply because I needed something to put on them.

I want everything there to have earned its place.

So for now, eight little jars of lavender body butter are leaving the studio and heading out into the world for some very important opinions.

And I’ll be here waiting to hear what comes back.

Maybe we’ll tweak it.

Maybe we’ll make it again.

Or maybe this lovely little batch will turn out to be exactly what it needed to be.

One lovely little detail at a time.
